I got lucky with my PS2 controller. Biggest issue I had was the left analog stick not snapping back into the neutral position on its own. Which came in handy during the ladder room in MGS3: Snake Eater.

Just pulled it from storage though, doesn't seem to do it anymore. Also, the analog pads are sticky now, WTF?

yeah the rubber on the sticks degrades and become all gooey and sticky, it's nothing a cleanup doesn't solve. The stick getting stuck on one direction is actually an issue I have with mine too, however it's just dirt inside the mechanism, and it's gotten so bad it introduced DRIFT of all things in there.

This is going directly to r/copypasta btw

My PS2 controller is barely surviving, and the L2 button in articular keeps getting jammed for whatever reason. It's a miracle I can still play on my PS2 at all D:

Mano do céu, the price of the Logitech and the OG are extremely high, did you tried some controller adapter, like Brook Super Converter?

I thought about it, I might as well.

You're gonna think I'm shitting you, but I'm not: I use a 3rd party controller for my PS2, it works flawlessly, and it's by Madcatz.
I don't know HOW, but somehow, Madcatz DID make a good line of controllers and it was for the fucking PlayStation: the "Dual Force" series. Specifically, "Dual Force 2" since yknow, it's for PS2, but also there's a model called the "Dual Force 2 Pro" which is extremely minor-ly different but the one I use. Much thicker cable, much larger and more comfortable (imo) grip, a superior D-Pad just by virtue of not being a DualShock D-Pad, it still has rumble and pressure-sensitive buttons and on top of all that it also has turbo functionality if you for whatever reason need that on a PS2 game. My only gripe is that the face buttons are a tad bit smaller than a normal DualShock, but it's not the end of the world.

Additionally there's the PS2 wireless controller coming out soon by RetroFighters, I'd look that up since it looks actually pretty good. Still has the face button pressure sensitivity, and comes with two wireless receivers (one for PS2/1 and a USB one, potentially for PS3 support too?? but mainly PC obv).

Honestly my main gripe is not just with the DualShock 2, but with the fucking DualShock 3. THOSE are expensive little fuckers, and they never work right, they ALWAYS have fucked up inputs because the ribbon cable in them is held in place EXCLUSIVELY BY PRESSURE VIA A FOAM PAD and it sends mis-inputs whenever I do as little as tap the controller's body against my knee. I HATE it. My DualShock 4 is doing ok so far but I have heard horror stories about those, too. Really hoping Retro Fighters releases a PS3 edition of their controller with Gyro just so I can toss my DualShock 3 forever.

I was wondering about Madcatz and Retro Fighters, actually. I'm glad they seem to be putting in the effort.

As for the PS3 controller, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about - I got this PS3 on the second-hand market, and the controller was not only dirty and grimy, but things like the X Button were sticking to the rubber pads, so I opened it up, cleaned it up and closed, and got that exact same thing you mentioned with the shitty ribbon cable sending wrong inputs, of which you can totally make the controller go apeshit over if you slightly twist the controller or press the general area

what you HAVE to do is cut yourself a small piece of foam and add it on top of the little piece that's already in there for Extra pressure for the ribbon cable to touch the motherboard and STAY THAT WAY, I might have cut myself too think a piece to the point where the analog triggers feel kinda flimsy, but it worked, and it's a joy.

It is actually a bitch that the DualShock 3s are expensive and feel very cheap and flimsy compared to the Xbox360 and even the Wii controllers though, Sony never addresses these issues with their older consoles.
